Progress Update 1

Since returning from the site, I have cataloged the 3,937 photos taken on location, and grouped them all by section of the site. I initially created a perimeter around the tree and starting making circles around the site, until I got close enough to start adding in detailed shots.

It was important to me to capture the site untouched at first so for my first few hours on location, I didn’t move anything. As I was getting into the detail shots, I did move items away from the tree in order to capture the areas underneath. Everything was returned to the spot I found it.

In my curiosity I decided to throw the entire photo roll at the software to see what it would come up with at a first pass, and the results were quite impressive.  While the sotfware was able to impressively recreate the tree, there were many errors and holes in the model.

I’m going for detail, so this will have to be completed in chunks. Starting with the trunk, I have combined 348 pictures to recreate the trunk of the tree up to the first split with the green bead.
